Hey Laser Maker, I built a co2 laser similar to yours with first surface mirrors and a rock salt window, but even after 2 weeks and hours of struggling, I can't make it work. I aligned the mirrors 7 times, battled with vacuum leaks, finally gave in and bought a 15000v 60ma NST, helium from party store, co2 from baking soda and vinegar, tried tons of different gas combinations, and still no luck. Is there a secret I'm missing here. I pump down the tube with a air conditioner compressor, ignite the tube, see a pink glow, slowly allow the gas from the ballon to enter to a pressure where the discharge exstinguishes, the back off on it to reignite. WTF. I give up man. Does your tube hold a vacuum without leaks. What kind off NST do you use. How long is your discharge length, what is your resonator length. I guess all these factors play an important role.
