JULY 17 - In remembrance of bass player CHAS CHANDLER, who died in 1996. When The Animals split up towards the end of 1966, Chas turned to managing other artists, most notably JIMI HENDRIX. He also nurtured the British glam-rock group SLADE and led them through extraordinary success in the early 70s. He built up a mini-empire of companies, including music publishing, agency, management, production and a recording studio under the Barn Group banner. In the mid 1970s the original Animals re-formed and recorded their comeback album 'BEFORE WE WERE SO RUDELY INTERRUPTED' in his barn in Surrey. Chas helped develop the Newcastle Arena, which opened in 1995. In 2007, a memorial plaque by Newcastle City Council paying tribute to Chas was placed outside his former family home in Heaton.
