Strange song this. The 2 parts somehow never seemed to blend that well to me, like 2 different songs put together, although it's still a pleasant listen overall.

@ZLUGGO Actually this is one of PJ's less inspiring tunes.I know the video is a bit gimmicky which is probably why it's caught on than most of her other stuff, but PJ is capable of a whole lot better. than this.

She was in her teens (maybe 17/18 and still at school) when she recorded this, something she probably did privately on a cassette deck. Her singing voice hadn't developed yet, which it certainly would do over the next 5 years.

I can never get tired of listening to this track. Floyd had a very difficult job to follow up DSOTM, then they surpassed themselves with this masterpiece. And it still manages to send shivers down my spine 36 years later.

They remind me of early early Pink Floyd without the aural fx.

@dano9008 No. She hasn't worked with him live since the Uh Huh Her tour in 2005, and he's featured in a dvd recording of that tour in 2006. Since then they seem to have parted company, musically.

@mutedisease I think that goes for quite a few fans including me. I only really started to listen seriously to her 2 years ago, and am amazed at her transformation, not just musically, but physically as well. She's barely recognisable from her younger days in the '90s.

I think it sounds a lot better played live than it does in the studio, which is often the case with PJ. But it's still far from her best. One of the weaker songs on this album too, imo.

He means 'alive' as in 'live', ie connected to a large voltage, In the same way that mains transformers often 'hum'.. That's why he walks around the Tardis and then says that he can't see it connected to anything.

@salvadory It's thanks largely to Jools Holland that the late Amy Winehouse was discovered. He gave her her first tv break in 2003 as he did similarly to PJ Harvey on 1993, although she may have got tv exposure a year earlier at the Reading Festival

The other version was a first take, and is sometimes referred to as the 'pilot' episode.There are noticeable differences, not least the scene on the Tardis where the script is radically altered as well as different sound effects.
