Having little or no imagination, my writing is restricted to real life experiences, and I try to see the humour in most things.
However, my humour deserted me when I was 19 and newly-married and only recently did I decide to write about my experience as a 'battered wife'. The reason for this was quite simple; I could see parallels with me then, all those years ago, and the poor women who are denied the same rights and privileges as men, who live their lives veiled, in closed communities where if anyone does hear their screams, they are routinely ignored. I was one of the lucky ones...
My father was a Spitfire pilot in Burma and an aviation pioneer, my grandfather was the longest surviving laryngectomy in the world. My partner and I saved a centuries old farmhouse from certain death. All these are subjects of books published by my publishing company Wunjo Press.
