I have been natural for 8 years! I can't believe all of that hair in my profile picture is mine. It was blow dried and then twisted in two strand twists and wrapped in that bun.
I also love to look at other peoples videos to get ideas about natural hair styles and care. I have utilized the internet from the first day that I decided that I wanted to go natural. I knew it would be a challenge because I'd worn a relaxer since the 1st grade. So I knew nothing about my hair and then in 02 ' or 03' I found nappturality.com and I was hooked. Thanks Dee Coily for bringing your vision of natural hair care support to other women. I learned as much as I could about my natural, 4b-4c tightly coiled hair. I am still seeking knowledge about my beloved afro.
I find that a lot of people would like to go natural and they even get started, but once they realized that they don't have what I call a "straight curl" texture in their hair, they give up. But they end up giving up because they didn't do research first and accept the hair that they have. Don't get me wrong, it has been challenging some days, but I still don't even have an urge to straighten my hair. I like my afro.
It's been criticized, talked about, looked up side, and marveled. Through all of that, I love wearing my hair natural. And I'm ok with being the only natural in the room.
