I found my copy in a thrift shop...like a bad dream, I got it home, transfered it to tape, and dropped it. AAAAAUUGH! It survivied, but with two hairline cracks. *sigh* Thanks for posting so I don't have to play my copy and remind myself of my stupidity by having to hear that "tic-tic" sound....

The uke is playing the "chunk-chunk" rhythm behind the Hawaiian...along with a guitar. Through headphones, that ''crunch'' isn't a crunch at all but a uke strum. It's the very distinctive sound of a uke.

I had a chance to meet the last surviving Zeigfeld Girl, Doris Eaton Travis - she still had "it" at 105. She danced (!) and sang that year, as she did from age 91, at the annual "Easter Bonnet" for "Broadway Cares".

@2reeler My 2 cents if I may? We don't really know which last four. It may be that he's talking to the pianist, who does, in fact, play through a figure. Ok, so it we don't hear 4 bars, but starting at "the last four" may bring him to the figure that was in question, with Bix singing the phrasing...

I love that the sheet music - including every fakebook in which I've seen it - says, "Music and Lyric by Neil Hefti."

Miguelito's recording of this with the Orquestra Casino de la Playa is ridiculous, too, as is this video (I've gone between 2;30-2:45 a zillion times.)
