Talk to the people of the
Streets about
How The Establishment decieves
Those who dont seem to
Agree
Try their best to
Undo what truth weve
Spoken
Well,
Yall Know Me,
So Dont Be
Shocked
When
I called them
Tokens
Then there are those who
Most would deem as
Hopeless
Those whos folks have
Grown up in the ghettos of
America
And RIGHT NOW
In this very era of
History in the Making
A era where a
Black President made it to the
White House
We still have 65% of his kin
Below poverty and a
Large percentage living in
Public housing
Now,
I didnt go to no fancy school
Or nuthin,
But just a short 40 something odd years
Ago we were riding in the back of
Busses
41 years, almost to date
2 of the Greatest Civil rights leaders
Were assassinated
Then after segregation
And around the 1980s,
Crack made its way to heavily
Populated urban districts
Black males were being shipped to
Prisons
Before their pubic hairs
Came in
Just a coulple years ago
Racism still exist in the south so thick that
We were holding rallys for
Shyt like
Jena 6
I guess my question is
How is it that 50% of
Americas non-minority population
Voted an Articlate
Highly Educated brother
(Who was barely allowed to utter the words African American in a Debate)
Into the
Presidential Innaguration
However,
Prior to THAT
NO ONE cared about
The urban schools who needed
Funding for education
Or
The many who get turned down for jobs
EVERYDAY
Because of the Afrocenric nature
Of their name on
Applications
Wait a minute
We got all caught up in winning
Did we forget than we havent finshed?
Seems to me like too many of us were just
Striving to be Assimilated
We are always waiting to be validated
Come on
Like we couldnt already claim that wed
MADE IT
Until ONE of us took the
Highest rank in the
Nation
We educate or selves in ways that please
The proverbial Establishment
So instead of using and
Pursuing our
God Given
Talents
We seek knowledge only to
Try to balance our bank accounts
Like Bobby and Sallys
Unsatisfied with the Crafts
Mommy and daddy
Passed down
We lose more of our culture
Just to buy more rounds at the
Bar
The biggest house
The latest car
But since most came from
Family backgrounds that were
Far from rich
We gotta keep our Jump Shot
Sick
Or we have to be 120% more
Strong and focused
Than the next
Kid ..
And thats just to get into
School
Ok, cool
Im not saying its like we just
Hopped off the slave ship yesterday
Weve come a long way
But peep game
If it wasnt for
The Martins and
The Malcolms
Paving the way
None of us would have ever seen
This day
If it wasnt the moms who worked 2 jobs
The fathers who put us through college
The uncles and all the aunts
The cousins and the
Neighborhood
Store fronts
The teachers and
The preachers,
Mother boards and the
Deacons
These people are the reasons we have a Black President
Everybody from the lunch lady
Who made you mind your manners
To the family
Shade Tree mechanic
To the old school kat
Who by the Establishments
Literary standards couldnt quite
Manage to say the words right
But
Always encouraged you to do
Right
You might want to thank these people the next time you see them
See,
Striving to be accepted or equal
Is rarely needed when you first
Accept the people who
Made you
Who you are
And start caring and giving back to
The very communities weve
Taken from
For a start
Because long before we had a Black President
This country was built on our
Backs
Were Strong
And long before we had a Black President
We are and forever will be
BLACK!
