But make no mistake - the Ecuador-born Canadian never forgets she's talking to real, live people. In fact, that's her favourite part of the job.
"I love getting to show my own personality, talking to callers, and hearing from listeners," she says. "If I can put a smile on someone's face, then I've done my job."
Johanna was born in Cuenca, Ecuador and moved to Toronto, Canada when she was a year old. She was introduced to jazz through her sister. She remembers her sister belting out classics by singers such as Dinah Washington, Frank Sinatra, Diana Krall, Billie Holiday,Sergio Mendes and her affinity for music --Canadian, American and Latin music- blossomed in her early years.
After unsatisfying stints in real estate and the health care industry, Johanna decided she wanted to pursue one of her greatest passions professionally -- talking and getting to know people. She is a Griffith University graduate with a Journalism and obtained a Diploma of Journalism-Broadcast from Sheridan College. She says her father, an elementary principle in Ecuador, instilled a strong commitment to academic excellence and the value of education.
Her career in radio and broadcast has led her to work at Rogers Communications, one of Canada's largest communications companies, and at a Canadian TV show called "Daytime Toronto" as a Community Producer/Intern. She joined Jazz Radio 94.1 FM in August 2010 as a Presenter/Sales Executive while pursuing her degree with Griffith University in Queensland, Australia.
Johanna says her favourite parts of the job are hearing from listeners and getting to interact with people from another part of the globe. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, horse riding, cooking, and learning new languages. She speaks English, Spanish, and conversational Italian.
