Doggie That I Used to Know (Gotye Somebody That I Used to Know dog parody)

10,625 views 1 year ago
DOGGIE THAT I USED TO KNOW, Gotye "Somebody That I Used to Know" parody to promote adoption of shelter dogs. Please adopt! Millions of dogs are put to death each year just for lack of a home. This video has a happy ending, but not all shelter dogs do.

With respect to Gotye and this song's copyright holders.

A PET POSTCARD PROJECT PRODUCTION
Lyrics: Nikki Moustaki and Matt Kurzban of Damn Glad (the band)
Vocals: Matt Kurzban
Video: Nikki Moustaki

Thank you to everyone who lent video and photos to this project!

NOTE: By the lyric "they are not my friends," I meant that the dog doesn't know them, not that the shelter workers are bad. Quite the opposite. I have a lot of compassion for shelter workers. They have a hard job.

LYRICS:

"Doggie That I Used To Know"
"Doggy That I Used to Know"

Now and then I think of when we were together
Then you dropped me at the pound where I could die
I thought you were the right human for me
But I guess I wasn't the right doggy
But in this cage that's all I can remember

In this shelter there's a certain kind of sadness
Like resignation to the end, always the end
Being sentenced does not make sense
The people here, they are not my friends
I can sit, I can stay, heel, and roll over

You didn't have to drop me off
Make me out to be a bad dog, when I wasn't
And all I really need is love
But you treat me like a stray dog and I feel so ruff
You didn't have to stoop so low
I used to have a name now they changed it and I'm just a number
I guess that I don't need that though
Now I'm just a doggie that you used to know

Now I'm just a doggie that you used to know
Now I'm just a doggie that you used to know

Now and then I think of all the times you called me Rover
Now I'm homeless, what is it that I've done?
How long can I live this way?
They said tomorrow's my very last day
They said I've gotta go
And I wouldn't get adopted because I'm too old!

You didn't have to drop me off
Make me out to be a bad dog, when I wasn't
And all I really need is love
But you treated me like a stray and I feel so ruff
No you didn't have to stoop so low
I used to have a name now they changed it and I'm just a number
But I'm getting adopted though!
Now I'm just a doggie that you used to know

[x2]
a doggie
(I used to know)
a doggie
Now I'm just a doggie that you used to know

(I used to know)
(That I used to know)
(I used to know)
a doggie
