I really can't stand riding set to music. I never ride with music because the sound of the engine is all the music i need to hear.

that was a rear tire going suddenly on to an unworn section, a slick spot on the track, or cold tires. bike slips, revs go way up, tires hook up, and highside. unless you cut the throttle in middle of the slide (and it doesn't sound like it), you really could have done anything.

Strangely my wife prefers riding on the back of the speed triple, than on the back seat of our touring bike, a Triumph Trophy. She says its easier to get on and off of, and the seat is more comfortable. I never would have guessed it.

odacirsaraoseaia1999 I wouldn't worry about the reliability. If you cruise the 675 .net website you'll find very few issues with the street triple.

My 06 speed triple is bullet proof. I would buy a used speed triple.

I think its pretty clear that the speed triple is better at those things listed: low end grunt, throttle control, plusher suspension, brakes, ride quality, and price. I would add classic styling over a hideous "transformer" look.

As much as I love it, triumph needs a beginner bike and would do well selling a single or twin based on the 675 or 800 in the kawasaki ninja mold. Build brand loyalty early, and they stay forever. The cruisers don't need a starter bike.
