i personally think that you cannot compare liszt to chopin and vice versa ... while chopin's pieces are contemporary(romantic), liszt pieces were, at his time, quite avant-garde ... this etude as well as other works such as Chasse-neige, harmonies du soir or his piano sonata gave people a glimpse...
