Informal japanese is how people speak in animes and real life, it's plain on how you speak to people and shorter than using desu or mashita. Formal is really polite form of speaking such as speaking to an adult or higher up. My explanation of this might sound confusing ^^;; I see. If you need any japanese help, I can help you. Oh, there is this japanese game that can help with learning japanese even though it's an otome game ^_^

You can buy otome games and other stuff at yesasia.com or play-asia.com and there is another called ncsx, there are other sites but they don't ship. I recommend play-asia the most of all. It's okay ^^ I learned japanese in my first year of high school and I took it for 2 years now, so once school starts I will be in my third year learning japanese except I will be learning informal japanese that most people in Japan speak right now. I was learning formal japanese up until now ^^;;
