Praised for her exquisite singing and expressive acting, soprano Lori Decter has captivated audiences since 2001 with her first interpretations of some of the repertoire's most demanding roles including the title role in TOSCA, Leonora in IL TROVATORE, Alice Ford in FALSTAFF, Santuzza in CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA as well as Countess Almaviva in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO, Donna Elvira in DON GIOVANNI, Fiordiligi in COSI FAN TUTTE, Rosalinda in DIE FLEDERMAUS and Senta in DER FLIEGENDER HOLLÄNDER. Ms. Decter has launched her young career as a Principal Artist in Residence for Opera San Jose, where she has also been heard as Micaela in CARMEN, Clorinda in LA CENERENTOLA , as well as Pamina and Erste Dame in DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE. During the 2003-2004 season Ms. Decter also made her debut with West Bay Opera. In the 2005-2006 Season, Ms. Decter will complete her tenure at Opera San Jose debuting the roles of Amelia in UN BALLO IN MASCHERA, Mimi in LA BOHEME and Donna Anna in DON GIOVANNI. Past triumphs include winning the Pacific Region for the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and competing in the National Council Audition's Semi-finals on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera in 2001. Since then she has received continued career development support from the MONCA Educational Fund. In the 2001-2002 season, Ms. Decter was named as an International Finalist and Encouragement Award recipient for the Gerda Lissner Foundation and was a Winner in the Advanced Division of the 32nd Annual Anton Guadagno Vocal Competition sponsored by Palm Beach Opera. Ms. Decter received both her Bachelor of Music Degree as well as her Master of Arts Degree in Vocal Performance from the School of Music and Dance at San Jose State University and continues to study with David Rohrbaugh.
