No one is really sure how and when Dylan Morrison became myth and enigma; nobody is even really sure who he is or where he came from. One day he just showed up, and he seemed like an old friend like he had been around since time immemorial; like he had been a Doors fan, ever since the world
began.

THE ART OF MYTH

Ok, so here's the deal. This is for the ones who don't get it. And keep in mind that Jesus said not to throw your pearls before swine, and it was William Blake who opined "That which can be made explicit to the idiot isn't worth my time." Not that I'm calling you swine. Maybe just some. Nor idiots. Well, maybe some.

This is an alter ego, a persona, a mask; all the world's a stage, and we are merely players; and when life gives you liquor you make licorice. I'm not the best at what I do. I am the only one that does what I do. And I'm following my bliss. You got a problem with that?

This is myth. Role playing. Ancient masks & 1000 faces. A dance across time & history. I'm simply acting a role in a Walter Mitty-esque escape to the other side. This is entertainment. Movies. Magic. Mystery plays.

Who am I then? A writer, guitar player, songwriter, singer, journalist, blogger, poet, columnist, father, son, brother, uncle, courier. I'm the guy you see sitting in a chair, with his acoustic guitar singing the sappy songs about broken hearts. I'm the guy who wrote and produced 2 books. That's who I am.

There is a motif in myths and then comic books and movies, about the hero with the secret identity, usually a meek and humble but sincere person ala Clark Kent and Superman or Spiderman & Pete Parker. Even Miley Cyrus and Hannah Montana, for that matter.

I'm a mild-mannered bespectacled document courier, who lives a secret life as Deadhead Dylan, Jim Van Hendrix or Dylan Morrison.

This is art, folks. Music. Fantasy. This is your life. This is your stage. Make the most of it. Make your music. Make your myths. Make your sounds. Follow your bliss. And when the music is over, turn out the lights.
