David Lockeridge is a Newcastle and Sydney based freelance Percussionist.

Originally from Griffith in regional New South Wales, David completed his Higher School Certificate in 2004 at Wade High School. Moving to Newcastle in 2006, David began his studies in Music Technology at the Hunter Institute of Technology. On completion of his diploma, David commenced his Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance at the University of Newcastle Conservatorium of Music studying under Percussionist Steve Morton. In 2008 David was awarded the Frank Hutchens Memorial Prize for the most outstanding recital of a student in the 2nd year of the BMus program.

After concluding his Bachelor degree in 2009, David has spent 2010 studying his Honours degree with one of Australia's great immerging Percussionists and musical director of Sydney-based percussion ensemble Synergy Percussion, Timothy Constable. Under the guidance of Dr Ian Cook (University of Newcastle Conservatorium of Music), the focus of David's studies has been on the development of percussion performance in Western Art Culture

In the short time David has been in Newcastle, he has become an extensive performer as both a soloist and ensemble musician having played with the Newcastle Wind Orchestra, Newcastle Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Youth Orchestra, Newcastle Festival Opera and SNAP Productions. David has also worked in collaboration with internationally acclaimed Oboist Linda Walsh. David has performed in the Australian Premiere of several works for Wind Orchestra by Johan de Meij including The Venetian Collection (2007) and Symphony # 3 "Planet Earth" (2008). In 2009 David was Principal Percussionist for "A Slender Strand of Memories", a work for Symphony Orchestra, Choir and Soloists by Newcastle composer Colin Spiers and commissioned for the celebration of 150 years of local government in Newcastle. In 2011 David performed the Australian premiere of John Psathas's new marimba work for solo marimba, junk percussion and tape "One Study One Summary". David is currently working on the Australian premiere of John Psathas's Dijnn for marimba and chamber orchestra as well as John Throwers work Aurora Borealis for marimba and percussion ensemble. David is also currently recording the album Metal, Wood and Skin: The sounds of Rhythm, and album featuring unique works for solo percussion.

David devotes his time between his studies and performance while also teaching extensively across NSW developing young percussionists through NSW Department of Education Instrumental Music Programs. After beginning his musical journey at the Riverina Music Camp in Wagga Wagga while still at school, David feels a great sense of pride and accomplishment in being able to continue his relationship with the camp and nurturing young musicians. Since 2004, David has been a key member of staff at music camps in the Riverina, North Coast, Western and New England Education Regions of NSW, as well as tutoring regularly at instrumental workshops in Newcastle, Coonabarabran, Muswellbrook, Thornton and Narrabri.David's passion for performing original and high demanding solo repertoire has culminated in a Concerto for Marimba and Wind Orchestra being commissioned for David by Australian composer Gerard Brophy, and will be premiered in 2012.
