Ensiferum Ensiferum means "Sword Bearer." Ensis is a third declension noun meaning Sword, and Ferum is from an irregular verb meaning "to carry" (like "ferry"). Markus Toivonen found the word in a Latin dictionary when the band were starting out and decided it was an ideal name. Ensiferum were found as a three-piece by Markus Toivonen, Sauli Savolainen and Kimmo Miettinen. They began mostly as a cover band before persuading Jari Mäenpää to join as vocalist and second guitarist a year later.

Fanisk Debut from epic/symphonic NSBM band, Fanisk. Whether or not you agree with the philosophies expressed in this band, you should definitely check this out for music alone. Very, very epic, atmospheric, synth-laden black metal that reminds, at times of Summoning's symphonic offerings. All in all, a very very good release. Highly recommended.

Wintersun Formed by Jari Mäenpää as a side project when he was in Ensiferum. When the sessions booked for the recording of the first album clashed with an Ensiferum tour, Jari left Ensiferum. The first album was recorded entirely by Jari, apart from the drums which were played by Kai Hahto.

Burzum Burzum is the musical project of Varg Vikernes (under the pseudonym "Count Grishnackh"). It began during 1991 in Bergen, Norway and quickly became prominent within the early Norwegian black metal scene.[1] During 1992 and 1993, Burzum recorded four albums; however, in 1993 Vikernes was convicted and imprisoned for the murder of guitarist Øystein "Euronymous" Aarseth and the arson of several churches. While imprisoned, Vikernes has recorded two albums in the dark ambient style.
