I am mum to a 17 year old boy with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.My main goal is to create AWARENESS of this disease. In Australia there is very little awareness of this disease. We need more publicity - more public education. I guess given recent events in the media where celebrities have suffered from one particular illness or other, the only way Muscular Dystrophy is going to get mass coverage in the media is for (God-forbid- I wouldnt wish this on any one) a celebrities child to be diagnosed.
This terminal illness is so heartbreaking for parents, siblings, family and friends.There is no cure and no treatment - as yet. We live in hope. But for boys, like my 17 year old son, the cure wont come soon enough........
