Produced in Tuscaloosa, AL, this public service announcement (PSA) aims to spread awareness about the issue of functional illiteracy in Alabama or the inability to do basic reading, writing and math work essential to function in everyday life.
Individuals who are functionally illiterate find it hard to fill out a job application, help their children with homework and read medicine labels... just to name a few obstacles.
There are many ways to help. If you can, text "read" to 48510 to make a one-time donation. Another way to help solve this problem is to donate your time by becoming a reading tutor.

more
At The University of Alabama's second annual Quidditch on the Quad event held in November 2011, UA students got a chance to drink some butter beer and try to catch a snitch. But they also got a chance to hear about functional illiteracy---the inability to do basic reading, writing and math to function in everyday life.
