I love your videos; they are such an inspiration. Here is a suggestion: Maybe you could do a video about the interpreting profession? You say that speaking foreign languages does not require talent, but what about people that interpret/translate for a living? Does their level of proficiency require an innate ability that the average language learner may not have? (And for that matter, what about famous bilingual/trilingual authors that wrote in a foreign language such as Ayn Rand, Vladimir Nabakov, Joseph Conrad, Samuel Beckett, Salman Rushdie)? Do you know any translators/interpreters, and why do they think about your views on language learning?
Keep up the great work. |

I have had comments in various languages and am not sure how to reply. but here goes to all.
How long have I spent on language learning? I go in spurts. Chinese took a full year, full time. My Russian has taken three years of 30 minutes to one hour a day. German or Portuguese are easier. I keep them up by listening and reading. I now learn them on LingQ. How many do I speak? 11. we also intend to add minor languages to LingQ. I have a twitter account and it seems like a lot of work to hear about people that I am not interested in. I do not understand. Kanji, just takes time. I have explained several times what I did, It is a kind of self-made spaced repetition system. languagelover, Jag hoppas att detta svarar dina frågor också |

Halloj, skrev ett långt tal på engelska innan jag kom att du kan svenska! Min fråga är. Hur gör du för att komma ihåg allt du lär dig? Skriver du ner? repeterar du efter filmer, musik eller ljudklipp? Är lite intresserad av din teknik. Snälla dela med dig :) Ha det bäst!

Your videos are inspiring Steve. Out of all the Japanese LingQ recordings, I like yours the best -- probably because your enthusiasm is infectious and motivates me to study more.

Steve, give us advice on how to learn 漢字. Been learning them half of my life and unlike reading listening and talking it's definitely not enjoyable (to me). Most people NEVER make it to the end. Tell us how you dealt with the issue.
