I don't think this is that good of a version. The song is fantastic, but other versions are more intense, in my opinion (might be the daylight that takes away here). The Giants Stadium '09 show versions are impeccable. The piano version from Cincinnati is also incredible.

The first time I heard this song was when I was watching Martin Scorsese's Mean Streets. The song, and particularly the opening riff, will likely forever be linked to De Niro's entrance in the movie, which might be the best entrance in movie history.

The video. It would be great, I think.

@jerico36024 Nothing. But I do think this version is better suited for the movie The Departed. Van Morrison's raspy voice is better for those scenes in that mob thriller, in my opinion.

Carol sang this song at church in the episode where she lost her voice. Cindy told Santa Claus she didn't want any toys; she only wanted her mommy to have her voice on Christmas.

Phish's version from 2 years before in Indio, CA, has backing vocals and is a more complete version. Good job with the camera work, though.

@kingaxl666 Levon Helm, like Hudson, also from The Band. I frequently check comments on this video and "the guy in the bosox hat" is who everyone wants to know. The guy with him on the mic is Rick Danko, who is also from The Band. Robbie Robertson is, however, not present.

the movement of the backup singers is perfect

does anyone know other version of Mother where the lyrics are slightly altered? for example, in the Wall movie, 'Is it just a waste of time' is changed to 'Mother am I really dying?' I thought I heard another version before too. ??
