There are currently over 600 Filipino's living in Limerick and most of them work in the healthcare industry so this community is a valuable asset for Limerick. The rest are either working in hotels, restaurants, personal care, and IT. "Our mission is to foster a healthy relationship and mutual respect within the Limerick Filipino Community (LFC). To inspire its members to share and develop their skills, abilities and talents in order to make a progressive, effective, and beneficial impact in its relationships with other Limerick communities," Tess Conway, The President of the LFC tells me. The LFC also organizes events such as festivals, competitions, and mass meetings every fourth Sunday of the month, and help immigrants to Ireland to settle in and integrate with the local Irish community. A Filipina, Jinkie Fogarty, who has Irish born children, says that strong family ties is what she sees as common values. 'Filipinos value family as much as we value religion. We see the Irish people as having that same value about family. Limerick is my life. I will live here until the end of my life,' she tells me.

www.odonovanproductions.ie. Nothing is more inspirational than seeing a group of kids having a dream and working hard to make it come through. Limericks Northside dance troup Flawless are an inspiration to event kid living in Limerick and I am so proud to have been there and be part of their journey. Flawless School of Dance Was started by teacher Billy Franklin in October 2008 and are based in St Munchin's Community Centre in Kileely which is a place very close to my heart. A video, which was shot by I Love Limerick of the girls performing their winning dance at Starz in the Hood 2010 in Moyross shot them to fame and has garnered almost 35,000 hits since going viral on YouTube. Billy then sent in a copy of the perfomance into the Late Late Show securing the girls a place on the 2010 Toy Show special. Over the last 18 months Flawless have really flourished, winning the British and Irish masters in 2009, 2010 and 2011 and the All Irelands In 2009 and 2010 as well as 2nd and 3rd place at this years. The girls also won Limericks Got Talent and since our video went viral have been invited to perform at over 50 events and in the same time frame have collected over 1200 competitive trophies. Help support their dream! To see the viral video that put Flawless on the map go to ILoveLimerick.com now. O'Donovan Productions (http//www.odonovanproductions.ie) were delighted to film Flawless' Christmas Show 2011. Here are some clips from the night. Full show available now on DVD

Champion Limerick fundraiser Tina O Gorman who is a mother of six and a grandmother of seven from Pineview Gardens, Moyross reached her one million fundraising mark this past Friday night after 34 years spent fundraising. Tina broke the €1m barrier at the Annual Aspen Red Carpet Event, a fundraiser for Parkinson's at The Pery Hotel. It was an amazing night featuring entertainment from Leanne Moore and drag sensation Celine and almost 5,000 Euro was raised for the charity. Tina was overcome with joy, as all her loved ones were present to share her success. Each time she begins a collection, Tina applies for a permit from gardai, who have a record of all of her collections. "What gives me the greatest satisfaction is the joy on the people's faces that you have just helped. It is very heart-warming," Tina told me. "The biggest highlight for me was little Stephen Custy Price, who had holes in his heart and we helped him out for an operation. He survived, grew up and years later came to me with a chocolate heart and said 'this is for the heart you gave me'. It was very emotional," Tina said. Stephen and his family attended the event to show their support for Tina and his mother told me, "This lady has made such a difference to people's lives, as well as being instrumental in saving people's lives." Always thinking of others Tina held a moment of silence at the event for Limerick legend Julie-Anne Dineen who passed away from cancer last week. Tina and she defines the spirit of Limerick.

The President comes home - President Michael D Higgins was warmly welcomed to Limerick when he made his first visit to the city since his election. The Limerick born president visited St Munchin's Community Centre in Kileely, which he visited on his campaign trail in September. President Higgins said he "made a deliberate decision" to return to the city and particularly to the centre, which he hailed as "the very best of Limerick". "I made a deliberate decision to come back, particularly to St Munchin's Community Centre because I was so impressed by the huge range of services that were going on here when I came in September," the president told me. The president also declared that he "had a certain other set of reasons for being here as well, this is the parish I was baptised in". Linda Ledger, manager of the centre, said she was "thrilled" to host the president. "It is brilliant for the centre and what is great for us is we did it on our terms, we didn't put on any mock show, we did it in our hall, we did the food ourselves, the flowers, and it just shows you what we do every day, we can do it, there is nothing we can't do here," she said. Over the last five years this centre has assisted their community to develop a sense of pride and reach its full potential by responding to needs and issues as they arise. By providing a central, accessible and visible hub for local community activity, in response to local demand they continue to expand its services and facilities such as a restaurant, florist, hairdressers, launderette and computer classes to name a few. They also provide a meeting space for local groups and address isolation and social exclusion for the older members of the community. They are currently looking for the last piece of funding to complete their renovation and need your help now!
