If Armistead's monument was first then do you know what Gen't Longstreet's was ?. Was it the first statue confederate likeness ?...Maybe I'm mixed up
on the "first" specifics...I don't think Gen'l Lee's statue likeness was first. All I remember was learning the Veteran's for both North and South retraced their
steps at Gettysburg and by and large agreed on marking out each significant site. Thanks again rob9641. I love the study of the American Civil War too.

I paid your respects. Someone left Gen. Armistead a valentine heart and flowers at the monument where he fell. There is usually some sort of memorial there. They've had to rope it off because there's so much traffic grass won't grow. FYI, if you didn't know, that was the first monument to a Confederate officer at Gettysburg, erected in the 1880s - the anger from the war was still fresh and there was a big argument over whether to do it or not. And another trivia irony - the Masonic Memorial to Armistead at the Cemetery was dedicated on August 21, 1993 - nine days before RJ died. Jordan died right after the monument was dedicated - Armistead died right after the scene the monument depicts. (I am one big trivia nut.)
