Delaware native Alexis Renee Ford began her musical journey at the piano at age 4. Her composition days started in 1999 when she won the DSMTA Composition Competition with one of her earliest pieces for piano. Today, Ms. Ford holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in Composition/Theory from the University of Delaware and is currently pursuing two Masters' Degrees in Composition and Conducting.
Ms. Ford is a student of internationally commissioned composer Dr. Jennifer M. Barker. Her current projects include numerous choral works for mixed and men's choirs, solo pieces, orchestral arrangements and small chamber works.
In addition to working on her compositions, Ms. Ford has many other musical interests and studies privately with various performers and conductors. Ms. Ford studies voice with Bringham Young University graduate Robert Brandt, piano with University of Delaware's Associate Professor of Piano, Prof. Marie-Christine Delbeau, orchestral conducting with Peabody Conservatory graduate Dr. Brian Stone, and choral conducting with UD Music Department Chair, Dr. Paul D. Head. She has been an active member of several student organizations including the UD Opera Theatre, ACDA, and ASCAP, as well as serving as student chapter president of the UD Society of Composers, Inc. (SCI).
Over the years, Ms. Ford has participated in several state, regional and national honor choirs under the direction of conductors such as Dr. Paul A. Smith, Dr. Anton Armstrong and Gary Graden. In addition, Ms. Ford has spent several summer workshops under the tutelage of conductors such as Charles Bruffy, Weston Noble, Dr. Dennis Shrock, Dr. Bruce Chamberlain, Dr. James Jordan, and Dr. Giselle Wyers. Today, she lends her soprano voice as a member of the world-renowned University of Delaware Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Paul D. Head. With this group, Ms. Ford has toured and competed in the United States, Asia, and Europe.
