I believe in morals, government of temper, manly character. I aim to passionately firm character requiring improvement and discipline, to read carefully and not to be satisfied with a superficial understanding. I believe in a family governed in a fatherly manner, to look carefully after the interests of friends, to tolerate persons who form opinions with ignorant consideration. I love children truly, love truth, love justice. I stand for the same law for all, a polity with regard to equal rights, and a government which respects the freedom of the governed. I count on doing good, to give to others readily, to cherish good hopes, to be loved by friends. I exercise cheerfulness in all circumstances, a mixture in the moral character of sweetness and dignity. I do what needs to be done with love and perseverance. I try to look to reason, to example that the same man can be both resolute and yielding. I am both conservative and liberal.
