Finnish student of construction management and English philology (as odd a compilation as it sounds). An eager woodsman and hiker - nature itself is the greatest wonder around. I find delight in nearly all styles of art, as long as it's either well done or simply kicks ass (that's why I like both classic Chinese silk paintings and snotty punk rock, for example). Mention me a piece of art and I'll judge it.Deeply interested in all things folklore - myths, beliefs, old and new stories, music etc. For the past few years my main interest has been in West African culture, the cultures of the Lakota and the Iroquise Confederation and of course my own (especially Eastern) Finnish roots. There are two different versions of Nälkämaan laulu (The Hunger Country Song) in my favs - the anthem of my home region.
I write. Next, you're asking what. Well, I write simply anything. I've done newspaper articles, I've done columns, I've done official contracts and reports and all. I've done short stories and fables, and I'm always trying out new genres. Blame Mr. Gaiman, but lately I've been thinking about a comic manuscript... But my main area of writing has always been poetry and song lyrics.
I play. There's little more to that. The rule "try out everything you ain't yet tried" applies here, too. Mainly it's blues, jazz and rock in all their variations. Plus my own experiments on some rought style of "world music" - or at least that genre is the closest to describe the sounds. Generally, I hate getting strict about genres.
People usually want to know the instruments I do. They are the electric bass and it's fretless brother, both electric and acoustic guitars, slide guitar, the harmonica, the recorder, the flute and the djembé (that African polytonal drum the shape of an ugly flower vase). Plus any old fretted string thing I get my hands on, of course - such as the mandolin, the bouzouki and the balalaika. Only own guitars, tho'. I'd love to have a shot at the West African 4-string ngoni! (already tried the kora harp - love it!)
Mainly, the things in life I love most are good friends, nice trips outdoors, playing and listening to good music, writing good texts, building bridges, traveling around, reading good books - and occasionally getting slightly drunk with those good friends.
