The first person on stage is "Willie" Wells-son on the late "Bill" Wells (Bill passed away on November 8, 2011), Bill had been operating his Pickin' Parlor for more than 20 years. It is where a lot of us got our start in bluegrass music. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends - especially those in the field of bluegrass.
Now about Harold:
The Lucas Family has been playing bluegrass for almost a century. Pat Ahrens gives a shortened version of Harold's many accomplishments. It has been my pleasure to perform on stage with Harold for the past 4 1/2 years and the with the rest of his "band" - Dusty Rhodes, Keith Crout & Tom Atkinson. JW Hendrix played the bass for the band but he was absent Friday night. Harold's son, Randy joined us on stage whenever possible.
Harold has been in poor health for the past year and has been unable to continue to sing and play the banjo. He is certainly missed by those of us in his band and by the audience at Bill's. We are hoping that he will get well and be able to pick/sing again.
In a lot of my "jam" videos taken at Bill's, you can see the back room stage that Dusty is talking about and all of you who have watched our videos will recognize the hat!
It was an honor to be able to perform with you, Harold. Glad we at Bill's could give you the recognization you truly deserve,
