On anti-atheist claims that Hitler was not REALLY a catholic, but was just faking being a christian, when he was REALLY an atheist:

The Wikipedia article on Hitler quotes all sorts of conflicting data about Hitler's religious beliefs. The most interesting aspect of that stuff for me is the idea that supposedly Hitler carried out his master plan and attempted genocide of the Jews while masquerading as a christian, and that it couldn't have been accomplished on an atheistic basis:
"Adolf Hitler's religious views are a matter of some dispute. While raised by a skeptic father and a Catholic mother, after childhood, he ceased to participate in the Sacraments completely. He sometimes made public statements which seemed to affirm religion (which suited his political purposes) and prior to 1940 had promoted a "positive Christianity", purged of Judaism and instilled with Nazi philosophy, but in private was hostile to Christianity and had a plan to destroy it after the war."

Theists love to label Hitler an atheist and point at that as evidence of the moral bankruptcy and evil of atheism. But if we're to believe the Wiki article, he felt he had to ACT like and pretend to BE a CHRISTIAN in order to carry out his plans. He couldn't do it AS an atheist, cuz it wouldn't have worked, or such is the implication. In other words, pushing forward his genocidal agenda required a CHRISTIAN foundation, acting in the name of CHRISTIANITY to acquire support for it, presumably from CHRISTIANS. That does a lousy job of supporting claims by theists that regimes being atheist in nature is what allows them to succeed so well in mass murder. But regimes being THEIST in nature gives them license to do just about anything.

Raised Catholic, and thanks to that, and the fact that I grew up, I'm now definitely an atheist.

(In response to a brainwashed christian who tried to tell Matt that "The Mafia Boss" [god] has every right to "break Matt's legs" but he won't if Matt will just pay up):

"The Mafia Boss does NOT have every right to break my legs. I'm sorry that your religion has so polluted your brain that you're unable to actually see what is immoral about what you're thinking. But that statement from you sums up everything that I tried to say 10 minutes ago. The Mafia Boss does NOT have every right to break his legs. And the moral and just thing to do is to stand up and say "NO YOU DON'T", and if somebody is asserting that they're working for a Mafia Boss and this Mafia Boss doesn't even necessarily exist and they want you to pay, which is exactly what's happening here because we have no reason to think that this god exists, I don't care if he does, this particular god that you're talking about, it doesn't matter, it's immoral, it's nonsense, it's immoral AND it's nonsense. He's ultimately responsible. The story (and I agree I'm getting worked up and it's not because I believe that there's any truth to the story) it's that I'm so frickin' offended and pissed off that there are people out there who take this fairy tale and make excuses for it and say that this is something good that people should be applying to their lives, or that we should make 2010 the year of the bible. Listen to yourselves! I'm more moral than that and so are you and you guys need to just OWN IT! It's insane!"
