The sound is rather strange in that it seems to be defined, in the sense that the instruments, particularly the first violin are crisp and clean, and yet overall the end result is slightly distorted by being perhaps overloaded or just destroyed by the balance engineer.

The point was to provide an opportunity to hear the organ in it's original condition, which is an impossibility otherwise, from what I can understand.
