The Whites Stripes knocks this song on it's ass(this is a compliment). I actually cry nearly every time I hear this version, this version only. By far their best performance of this song. I love how the audience sings along with him in the beginning.

It kills me to say this but i still prefer the original by Depeche Mode. It's just loses that "je ne sais quoi" without that heavy guitar riff, the synthesizers, and Dave Gahan's lead vocals.

But i still totally revere CASH as an artist.

One of my most favorite sounds in the world. I think the Japanese cicada (higurashi?) has an eerily haunting quality, beautiful nonetheless. Sound effect used in almost every anime I've ever seen.

The cicada's from where I'm from (Appalachian Mountains VA/TN, USA) kinda remind me of an ambulance ...

@172hannon ...I know, right!! I didn't catch it until after a few watches...totally intentional on Sophia Coppolla's part, of course. I only noticed it because that's one of my favorite scenes in the movie.

I'm an eternal New Order fan due to hearing this song for the first time while watching the movie (the 18th birthday party scene). Nearly the whole fucking soundtrack is simply amazing. I get the indication that Sophia Coppola likes post- punk and new wave.
