@robertdonkers She wasn't ignored, She was very ambivalent about her talent. I heard her live only once. Truly spectacular. But she wanted to stay at home and have babies.

Vickers is one of the GREAAAAAATest tenors of all time. This performance is 10 years past his prime. Imagine if it had been 20 years earlier.

I never heard Flagstad live, I was blessed to hear Nilsson, and I add a third soprano, Eileen Farrell whom I heard once in a concert performance, with Bernstein. An equal to these two.

Oh my! Now we stage it as the death of Lenin! Lazy post modern Europeans may have to work till the age of 62; a tragedy. Great orchestral performance spoiled by a stupid staging.

Fantastic. Schwarzkopf rules. And superb performances like this make the point.

Cannot quibble with the choices. Flagstad had the timbre of a woodwind. Think about a performance of Walkure with Crespin as Brunhilde, Nilsson as last minute sub as Siglinde! Think of Tosca with Visi d'arte sung on her stomach!
