About laurensmusicsign
Hi! First, my YT name does not imply that I am an expert; it was easy to remember, then I cldn't chg it! This began with one video as a gift for my friend. I never imagined that it would start getting hits, comments & requests,& people would say they made a difference in their lives. :) So many asking about where to go to learn ASL! Very cool.
I am not deaf. I was inspired to learn from my cousin & my ASL instructor, both of whom are. I am not an interpreter, although that may be a route I chose someday when my children are older. It would take many years to become fluent in ASL, so I admire those that are. It is difficult to translate songs in English to ASL without losing the rhythm & meaning because ASL is a true language and therefore, not in English word order. You will see the progress in the videos & even more so when I update each. I don't want to upload any others until they are ASL.
I can't please everyone and I will never be a perfect signer because I am not deaf. However, I am making the effort to communicate on all levels in a way that I truly enjoy - in the most beautiful language.
All I know is what I am reading from all of you: people who were touched to see a beautiful visual aspect put to their special song. That it helped express their love, or let go of one; deal with the loss of a grandparent, a friend; recall their faith; start a new life; their wedding song; courageously battle disease as they fight for their life; bravely fight to protect ours... Countless people asking how & where they can learn ASL (college classes near you, on-line resources, or most importantly, talk with someone who is deaf). These are the reasons I'm doing this, and will continue...Thank you so much for the support.
My best,
~Lauren
