My rule of thumb for scaning paper photos is 4 pixels a grain, meaning for each paper grain I give 4 pixels or 4 scan levels, that way in the future when you are zooming on a detail on the picture you don't end up seening pixels before you actualy get to see the original picture grains, 1920x2400...
