John Denver wrote this at Sinatra's request. Denver was in Japan on tour, far from home and wrote the lyric on a cocktail napkin, sketching out the chords later that morning.
Sinatra brought in uber arranger Claus Ogerman (A.C. Jobim) to write this beautiful arrangement.

My Foolish Heart (Frank Sinatra - with Lyrics)
Arranged by Billy May

Frank Sinatra did the vocal after the tracks were laid down. The great Billy May lets the band grove and the trumpeter Jack Sheldon swings it out as well.
Later-and oddly-a duet was made with Frank Jr. singing with Sr.
Billy May wrote some nice things for Frank Jr. over the years.

Great song, perfect tempo to open, close or both. I always thought the Jule Styne melody would make good chaser music.
Tony plays it well and sings it so wonderfully here. Styne, Comden & Green initially were after FAS to record the song, to introduce it, at least on vinyl. Columbia got it for T...

Don Costa had written a standard pop arrangement and they played it through a few times in the studio but Sinatra wasn't feeling it. After all, by 1979, everybody had done this great song so, during a break, Vinnie Falcone started playing it in a Basie swing style, like he'd just done with 'Isn't...

No, no, Jobim's changing lyrics was necessary and beautiful. For example, 'Waters of March,' becomes a song of spring, when done in English, a different take on the original tribute to fall.
Jobim was amazing in his ability ti do this.

I remember as a kid hearing Jackson talk about writing 'Doctor My Eyes.' He wrote it on a broken piano and I 'hear' that every time I listen to the opening of this song. And it isn't easy to play it either. Many fine pianists can't recreate this sound. I've fallen way short myself after working o...
