About Me:
At a time like the present, marked by a great crisis of spinto tenors and, in general, dramatic voices, Corelli figure emerges with unusual force. His powerful vocal means attached to a physical good looks, have not been equal in successive generations of singers.
Franco Corelli was born in Ancona, the beautiful city of the Marche region on the shores of the Adriatic, on April 8, 1921. The development of his life before the age of thirty did not foretell the future that awaited him. In his family had no musical background, however the young Corelli liked listening to records of Caruso and Gigli. Listening to recordings of these great tenors was fond of singing, for pleasure, without any pretense. In 1950 a group of friends convinced him to participate in a vocal training course organized by the Teatro Comunale in Florence, gained admittance. The first opera aria he sings is "Giunta sul passo extremity" of "Mefistofele" by Arrigo Boito. At that time a tenor Franco Corelli was not daring to arias strong commitment to the acute. In the three-month course learn to manage and improve their voices mean emission technique. In the summer of 1951 participated with great success in the competition of Spoleto Experimental Theatre, singing in four functions, the Don José of "Carmen" to be one of the key roles in his career. In January 1952 Opera debuts in Rome with "Giulietta e Romeo" Riccardo Zandonai from. Corelli prepared the "aria dei fiori", one of the most beautiful pages of the opera, listening to recordings of Miguel Fleta. Thus began a race late and slow rise during the early years, although with undoubted successes: in 1953 coincides with Maria Callas singing Pollione "Norma" (another of his greatest roles) in Rome and Trieste. In December 1954 Callas sing again, which will be his first big break: his debut at the Teatro Alla Scala, Licinius in the role of "La Vestale" of Spontini, with stage direction by Luchino Visconti and musical Antonino Votto....
