Although Global air-traffic may have recently been affected by the activity of an icelandic volcano, one British Airways Flight Attendent is beginning to create her own eruption with her brand new sound of AFRO-URBAN GARAGE Music, LANKAI is a multi-lingual Singer-Songwriter and dancer, who also produces and owns her record label. Born in Accra / Ghana, LANKAI's story is unusual as it chronicles someone whose talent and determination made success almost inevitable. LANKAI was born a twin, indeed the 2nd set of twins born to the same mother! Even more remarkable is the fact that both set of twins were born on the same day 2 years apart...
LANKAI's musical talent was evident both to her parents and peers from an early age. However, her desire to fuse Western musical influences with traditional Ghanaian music, led her to run away to Paris when she was in her late teens. She recalls leaving Ghana as the hardest thing she has ever had to do, but from there her musical journey has been like a rocket emerging through the clouds and aiming for the stars! Forced to learn the language and grow up fast, she started to make a name for herself while in France working as a backing Singer with many artists and even worked as a support act to JIMMY CLIFF. However, after her initial success she began to feel homesick, and decided to return back to the Ghanaian capital, Accra. Back in Ghana, her musical career continued to soar. It was while working with DIONNE WARWICK & the late ISAAC HAYES at a charity concert that she met EARTH, WIND & FIRE's FREDDIE WHITE. Not long afterwards she left for Chicago to work with him and credits him with teaching her how to compose. The challenges of a single career girl living alone in Chicago eventually got to her and she decided to come and settle in London. Keen to invest in her future she joined British Airways where she has been able to use her skill of speaking 4 languages. This has enabled her to travel the world while still developing her musical talent... SIMON COWELL is among a few household names she has met onboard her many flights and describes him as a teddy bear and very sweet.
LANKAI is signed to her own Record Label 'LANI RECORDS LTD and will ultimately nurture the talents of other up and coming artists... LANKAI was invited by MAGIC ROCKER, a Chicago based Producer / Singer / Songwriter & Musician who has won 3 Chicago Music Awards, to come and record her 'Debut' Album 'MY DESTINY' in the United States. 'I have seen enough of the world to last me three life times' she said 'and working for the airline is the ideal job because of the times you get off', 'I am away maybe four or five times a month and the rest of the time I am free, so you can either sleep, drink, shop or pursue a dream, 'I chose the DREAM'! She has proved that with hard work, sacrifice and determination even the sky has no limits for this unique creative talent!
LANKAI's 'debut' Single 'DELICIOUS, a very Sassy Afro-Urban Garage track with its House & RnB / Dance Remixes will be released' on Valentine's Day Monday 14/02/11 and the video will be released to Worldwide Tv Networks on Monday 20/11/10!
