America's first high speed auto and passenger ferry in action.
The early parts of this video show the Lake Michigan waters shot through the bow doors of the Lake Express as it travels at full speed - nearly 40 mph. On the day this was shot the waters were dead still and the feeling was like standing on the wing of an airplane - you could see down many feet below and the entire bottom edge of the Lake Express was visible as it cut through the water.
The middle portion of this video shows details of the unique water jet propulsion system of the ship as it travels at full speed on Lake Michigan.
Finally, shots taken on the sundeck show passengers enjoying Lake Michigan views and the thrill of crossing the lake on Lake Michigan's high speed auto and passenger ferry.
Lake Express began service in 2004 as the first high speed auto and passenger ferry to operate between US ports. It has completed more than 5,000 Lake Michigan crossings between Milwaukee, WI and Muskegon, MI and has carried more than 600,000 since its inaugural voyage June 1, 2004.
