I raised my mantises up as young nymphs, which basically means from the day they are born. Three years ago, I obtained wild caught females, they laid eggs, and the eggs hatched in late spring. I did not do anything that year so I let them all go in the yard, during that fall, I found one adult female in the yard. I caught and kept that female, found a wild caught male and bred her with the male. She laid eggs, the eggs hatched the next summer, I let most of the young go, but I kept fifteen of the babies, eventually, the fifteen dwindled down to only five, the five were bred and the females laid eggs. The eggs hatched this spring, I kept four of them, all four survived till today, and that is where and how the praying mantids I have today came from.

Crickets will mate and produce more crickets, you need to give it a small dish or tub with moist earth in order for them to lay eggs, also it takes a few weeks for the young to become adults.
