About this user
LAAF was founded in 2005 by Linda Magiera and Lisa Dodge to raise brain cancer awareness. Brain cancer strikes almost 200,000 people each year and discriminates against no one. It has no known cause and no known cure. We believe the key to the cure is through awareness!LAAF honors Lori Arquilla Andersen and her wish of making a difference in the lives of other brain cancer patients.
Lori, a Chicago area native, was diagnosed with the worst type of brain cancer (GBM grade IV) just 3 months after her marriage. She fought a courageous 22 month battle and was able to remain positive until the very end. She lost her battle on 7-5-05 at the young age of 35.
Even on Lori's toughest days, her smile and laughter would shine through and inspire those around her. We continue Lori's journey in hopes of finding a cure.

Mission statement: 'The Lori Arquilla Andersen Foundation for Brain Cancer Awareness is promoting awareness of the life threatening effects of brain tumors, advocating on behalf of brain cancer patients and raising funds for medical research.' LAAF is dedicated to making a difference towards finding a cure.
LAAF works closely with Dr. Jeffrey Raizer, Director of Medical Neuro-Oncology at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine; he is the administrator of the Brain Tumor Research Fund. This May,2008, they are launching the Brain Tumor Institute.
Most recently, LAAF drafted and submitted a resolution to Congress and was invited to speak at a Congressional briefing in DC on that resolution. Persistence and passion won out! This May, 2008, the resolution was passed making May - 'NATIONAL BRAIN TUMOR AWARENESS MONTH'.
Thank you Congresswomen Schakowsky!
Please see her CSPAN video where she speaks about the awareness month being passed and LAAF's involvement in the process. Click on the video to the right in our favorite's list.
