I lived most of my life thinking I was a "good person" until I was 27 years old. That was when the Gospel was presented to me. I realized I was a liar (I'd lied before)and a thief (I'd stolen before). What I didn't realize was God judges us by our thought life too. God sees hate as murder and lust as adultery. And on Judgment Day, a just and righteous God HAS to punish sin. But, Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life and died for me on the cross. He took my punishment. Then He defeated death and rose from the grave. And I made Jesus the "Lord" of my life (Jesus is in charge, not myself) and repented (fancy word for 'turning away' from my sin and turning my life over to Jesus) then and only then was I able to accept the free gift of salvation (fancy word for being 'Saved' from an eternity in Hell). Otherwise I would be destined to Hell. Now, Jesus has changed my wants...I no longer want to sin. Do I mess up??...well yea sometimes. But, I no longer want to be in rebellion against God. And everyday it becomes easier and easier to avoid sin. I now live for Jesus....NOT myself.
