What do you mean by "equivalent?" Your usage I feel could be more illustrating. I mean it's not difficult to play open chords on a guitar or a root/fifth tones on a bass. It's true that there is a lot of garbage within that genre but there are a lot of greats. I don't feel like mentioning them...
