Established in Manhattan in 1863, Kansas State University is one of the nation's first land-grant universities. K-State also has a campus in Salina, and another coming soon in Olathe, plus extension fields, offices and other facilities in Kansas and Nebraska. Recognizing K-State's expertise in animal health, NBAF, a national institute for animal health, will be built here.
K-State is in the top 4 percent of the nation's public universities identified by the Carnegie Foundation as having "very high research activity." K-State undergraduates have rich opportunities to work side-by-side with some of the nation's best authorities in their fields. Many students begin undergraduate research their freshman year.
K-State is the only research university in the United States to have three national CASE/Carnegie professors of the year. All three are active teachers. Michael Wesch, 2008; Chris Sorensen, 2007; and Dean Zollman, 1996.
