Rare earth meets rare talent as director Liew Seng Tat unleashes his fertile imagination on the Lynas controversy and fantasizes about our post-apocalyptic Malaysian village. After the radioactive dust has settled, we find that the village's leaders and entrepreneurs have all gone to a better place (and we don't mean heaven). Left behind are the innocent victims who couldn't afford to flee their ancestral homes, their lives turned upside down -- for some, quite literally. Liew Seng Tat's vision is unique and funny and guaranteed to crack you up. Yet, in the aftermath of the laughs, there lingers a poignant aftertaste. Is it thorium? Maybe, maybe not. But don't worry, they tell us it's not dangerous.

At a Press Conference held at the MTUC Head Office in Selangor on 28th Feb 2012, the Malaysian Trade Union Congress (MTUC) passed a vote of no confidence against the Minister of Human Resource and Maybank Bhd. MTUC General Council Member, Mr Savinanthan summarises the justification for this action at the Press Conference which was attended by all Council Members lead by Khalid Atan, the President. In a press statement issued by the MTUC the justification for the Vote of no confidence are as follows: 1. Failure to curtail the violation of various laws and international treaties governing workers' rights committed by Maybank Bhd. This includes breaches of the Federal Constitution, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, International Organisation (ILO) Convention 98. Industrial Relations Act 1967 and the Trades Union Act 1959. 2. Failure to cancel the registration of the Maybank in house union, registered contrary to the binding Collective Agreement between Maybank Bhd and NUBE and Section 12 of the Trade Union Act 1959 for more than one year despite numerous written appeals and meetings. It is clear that the Minister is working with Maybank against the interest of the trade unions in this country, 3. Failure to listen to the grouses raised by the Malaysian Trade Union Congress (MTUC) as regards to the amendments to the Employment Act 1955, in particular the provisions which allows for labour contractors to supply labour to employees.

YB Hannah Yeoh, the ADUN from Subang Jaya, presented a RM50k cheque to the Sri Subramaniar Temple in PJS7, Bandar Sunway being a contribution from the Selangor State Government for the temple and kindergarten building fund.
The cheque presentation was held in conjunction with a Fund Raising Dinner organised by the temple at the SRJ(C)Chee Wen, Bandar Sunway on the 18th Feb 2012.
YB Hannah Yeoh commented that a temple is more that a house of prayer, it can also be a centre for community service. She quoted the case of Masjid Alfalah in PJS9 which has teamed up with some private doctors to provide affordable health care at a rate of RM5 to residents in Bandar Sunway and Subang Jaya.

Our journey starts at the oldest Hindu Temple in Kuala Lumpur, the Sri Mahamariamman Temple at the edge of Chinatown along Jalan Tun HS Lee. The temple was founded in 1872 and relocated here in the year 1885.
On the eve of Thaipusam, the statuettes of Lord Murugan and his consorts leave this temple in a silver chariot, weaving through the streets of Kuala Lumpur enroute to Batu Caves some 14 km away. Some 350 kilograms of silver have been used to make this chariot. Devotees by the thousands accompany the Silver Chariot on this journey.
This is the scene at Batu Caves near the banks of the Gombak River. Devotees have their heads shaved and body cleansed. After that they make their way to the hill temple carrying milk pots and kavadis, accompanied by family and friends.
It is a 2kilometre walk from the Gombak River to the Batu Cave. Because of the amount of devotees offering and making penance, it is a journey that could take up to 6 hours.
A 150 metre statue of Lord Murugan stands majestically at the foot of the Hill cave welcoming the devotees. It is a straight 272 steps climb to the top of the hill where the temple is located.
Thaipusam is one of the most extraordinary religious celebration in Malaysia. For the devotees, this spiritual journey is only made possible by their faith, belief in their gods and support from family and friends. Script written and narrated by: KSTan
