About Me:
I do not upload make-up videos because I think I am some kind of "guru" or a fantabulous make-up lady, I just post them because I have a lot of friends who like seeing the weird stuff I put on my face. There are plenty of REAL make-up gurus who make much better videos for a wider audience, such as Pixiwoo, MakeUpGeekTV, VintageOrTacky, and many many MANY more.
Basically, I have no illusions of grandeur, and I just do what I do for fun. :)
Sometimes, I'll review something well or recommend a technique, or whatever, and it won't work for you. I know it sounds terrible, but you buy/use products at your own risk. I mean, if I read a magazine article that recommends the crap out of a product, then try it and it doesn't work for me, I don't call the magazine and freak out, do I? Not everything will work for everybody, and you don't have to have the same opinions I do. Variety makes the world go round!
And to the companies who would like to send me free products: I am absolutely flattered, but please remember that I only do HONEST reviews. I do not believe in the philosophy that if you don't like a product, you just don't review it. If I dislike your product, I will make a video that says so.
FAQS:
"How old are you?"
I'm 23.
"What do you do for a living?"
I'm a graduate student and a teaching assistant. I teach Composition I and Business & Technical Writing. I also work in the Writing Center.
"How long have you been in to makeup?"
Since I was about 15 years old, and I got in to it very seriously during my last years in high school. I loved play makeup as a little girl, but I never really tried "putting on my face" until I stumbled across Kevyn Aucoin's books.
"What camera do you use?"
I make the HD vids with a Canon Rebel T1i and the standard quality vids with a Casio Exilim.
"I like the HD videos better! Why don't you use your Rebel for all of your videos?"
Mostly because I'm very nervous about the camera breaking, and when I do videos the camera tends to get moved around and pushed around a good bit. It really is a photography camera for me, and that's generally what I use it for. :) Also, the files are freaking HUGE and take forever to load, edit, and save.
"Are your teeth faked/capped/etc?"
I had braces for a few years and currently wear retainers about once a week, but other than that, they're all real.
"Do you wear contact lenses?"
Nope!
"Why are you so mean?!"
I honestly don't mean to be nasty, I'm just very honest and try not to take makeup too seriously. If you ask me a question and I point you to a video I've already made, it's not because I don't want to answer your question, it's because I think the video will explain it better than 200 words of text can. If you like a product or a color and I don't, that's not me being spiteful, I just have a different opinion. If you ask me a personal question and I do not feel comfortable answering it, try to understand that I'm trying to be somewhat safe about being on the internet. And let's be real here: if you act like a total douchebag towards me, you really can't expect me to be all sugar and sweetness back. If you ever feel like I have been terribly rude to you, please private message me and we can talk it out like adults.
"Are you a goth?"
I'm just me.
"Will you do a video about (insert topic here?)"
If it's within my power, yes, I will put it on my list and do it ASAP. :)
"Ugh, you wore the same shirt twice! You're dirty!"
You mean you're supposed to throw your clothes out after you've worn them once?! Goodness, I've just been washing mine with laundry detergent and fabric softener! I've been so misguided. :(
"You lied about your name! It says 'Nae' on your channel, but you introduce yourself as 'Renee!'"
"Nae" is just my nickname, a shortening for "Renee." Most of my friends and family call me "Nae-Nae" or some variation therefore. I decided to introduce myself with my full name because I thought it might be easier for people to hear.
"You're not very good." / "Your makeup looks like crap." "You're doing your (whatever) wrong." / "Your clothes are ugly." / etc.
I am certainly not a ravishing beauty and I am far from a professional makeup artist. After years of soul-searching, I decided that life is short and I'll wear what I like when I want to wear it. I encourage you to do the same. :)
