Metal Slug X is a remake of Metal Slug 2 using the engine made for Metal Slug 3. If you ever played the original Metal Slug 2 cabinet, it has some tremendous slowdown and some sound issues, especially in the later stages. So that was fixed.

@smelly054321 If you super punch Aran Ryan, he tries to grab you. If he does, he drains your health and you're kind of stuck there, unable to counter-attack. The speech bubble is his ring man telling him what to do.
