jay hawkins wrote this didn't he? anyway, i don't really like his version of it, it sort of comes off goofy. this version would be better with less orchestrated music. but... the bottom line is manfred mann did the smoothest, best, most heartfelt version of this song ever. it kicks ass, believe me.

@mariavasilei says Cat is a Cypriot. I was living for several years in Cyprus in the early '60s. That means he was probably a kid there at around the same time. I lived and went to school in Nicosia. Does anyone know what part of the island he was from?
