Modern Love
Released Sunday Best, September 11th, 2006
"...a tantalising knack for pop hooks and potential hit singles" Sunday Times
Following up their critically acclaimed debut EP for Sunday Best, on august 28th Kish Mauve release 'Modern Love', a shimmering serving of jagged electro cool with a velveteen pop noir finish.
Producer and writer Jim Eliot's emotive, electronic-steeped production bubbles and soars, while Mima's vocals prowl over the melodies with feline grace. Add to the mixture guitarist James Sedwards (from the band Nought) and drummer Fraser Robb and you have a sound that's got crossover written all over it.
For the B-side to 'Modern Love' the band also offer their own strutting interpretation of The Passions' classic 'I'm In Love With a German Filmstar'. This limited edition 7" single will be followed by a 12" seeing S'Express legend Mark Moore adding a punchy bass-heavy remix of 'Modern Love,' with Simon Saunders contributing his epic re-rub of '...Filmstar'.
Mima and Jim met at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, whilst working on the music and projections for an underground production. At the time Mima was a folk singer playing the acoustic circuit and Jim was a writer/producer with his roots firmly in the dance scene. The pair met James and Fraser on the local music scene in London and drawing on collective influences ranging from Talking Heads and The Pixies, to Kate Bush and early Eurythmics, the group began collaborating and soon Kish Mauve was born.
The band released a three track EP in the summer of 2005 on Sunday Best, which soon sold out And that same year their breathtaking live show raised the roof at Glastonbury in the only beer tent left standing. They also rocked Bestival on Isle of Wight and have a slew of gigs lined up around the UK and Europe in the coming months.
The follow up to 'Modern Love' and the band's, as yet untitled, debut album are due later in the year.
