Lime render has traditionally been used onto solid wall constructed buildings made from cob, stone or brick. It offers protection from the elements to the structure but allows moisture to escape from the building.
As well as still being used for traditional buildings, lime mortar is increasingly being used for new eco builds such as straw bale, timber frame or indeed cob.
In some instances the mortar is applied to the wall by way of sawn oak laths with a gap behind to allow the mortar to key.
