Kids-N-K9s is an exciting program pairing juveniles sentenced to the Williamson County Academy ("boot camp") with homeless shelter dogs. The cadets work with the dogs two hours a day, four days a week, for six weeks to teach the dogs skills that will help them get adopted and transition into a new home, such as sit, down, stay, etc. The cadets learn valuable life lessons such as responsibility, patience, trust, coping with distractions, and perseverance in addition to gaining a sense of accomplishment from saving a life.

The cadets do amazing work with these dogs to prepare them for their new homes and to help minimize their stress and loneliness while at the shelter. Due to space issues, these great dogs are housed together in kennels behind the shelter but staff can bring the dogs out to meet you.

*PLEASE NOTE - While we work with the dogs, they are still living in a stressful shelter environment with very limited exercise and human interaction. They will likely be very excited and eager to get out of their kennels, which is typical for shelter dogs. Give them 5-7 minutes to settle down and we are sure you will see their great personalities start to come out.*
