I first heard him at the Leeds competition 4 years ago and was spellbound by his playing. He should have won that competition but the conductor of the concerto (Rach2) messed him up during the finals. His Prok 2 at the QE competition was truly great. He plays Haydn beautifully and Chopin. @billyguns2 I totally agree. For me Moseiwitsch is unsurpassed. Only Rachmaninoff is more authoratitive in Rach than he! What a beautiful sound. What ability to bring out inner melodies without disturbing the principle melody. What extraordinary ability to balance chords. What sheer musicianship!...

Rachmaninov, Prelude in G Op. 32/5 and Prelude in B-flat Op. 23/2 played by Moura Lympany

Sadly Moura Lympany never had the respect as a musician that she deserved. Was it because she was a woman & wore jewels and gowns when she played? I heard her many times 'in the flesh' and found her playing so deeply musical and techically impeccable. Her reputation has perhaps increased since he...

I really enjoyed that. You play with great musicianship. In my time I've played the Busoni, Reger, Tausig, Cortot & the Friedman! I really don't think you need those tremolos in your transcription, they're not necessary to sustain the sound on a good piano & they tend to sound like a silent-movie...

Ravel marked the tempo as 76, you're playing it at around 88. If you slow down a tad, you'll be able to make the melody more smooth and lyrical. Why don't you play the rest of the piece in the Samazeuilh transcription, you obviously have a 'feel' for the work.
