My name is Kevin Kashiwai and I am a singer songwriter from Mililani, Hawaii. I started playing music 26 years ago while in high school and began writing a few years later. I picked up the guitar first then moved on to vocals. Both came fairly easy to me though I do not consider myself to be extremely gifted in either. I was able to play my first songs on the guitar within a day (simple 80's metal stuff) and since I was a shower singer I just needed to get used to the mic dynamics before I was off and running. I was never able to shred on lead guitar but noticed early on that I could get the rhythms to sound a lot like the recordings. Similarly on vocals, range was a challenge but phrasing and melody were fairly strong. I'd sound pretty good up to the high notes (once again 80's metal). My friends and I dabbled in cover tunes, never making it out of the garage, when I had an epiphany. All of the bands that made it big weren't playing cover tunes but rather original music. I decided that if I wanted to get anywhere in music I would have to write my own music. I wrote on my own and with friends for years but never really got anywhere with it. I could never seem to stick with it or with a band long enough. I also had another passion in my life, golf that was vying for my time and commitment. After a while golf opened up a door for a career opportunity while music didnt and I became a PGA Professional. Music got put on the back burner for years. Finally after having a fairly successful career as a golf professional, music came calling again. I realized that I never really got it out of my system and decided to embark on a CD project with my long time friend and partner Pali Kaaihue. We wrote and released our debut CD PALI in 2001. We had a fair amount of success, a number one single on MP3.com (For You) and multiple Hoku award nominations, but it was short lived as the Lord had other plans. In 2002 the Lord opened a door for me to join the worship team at my local church. After a year or so I began writing again but this time it was under divine inspiration. Fast-forward to 2009 and I am releasing my first solo CD featuring 12 original songs. I am currently ramping up to support the CD and have decided to donate the proceeds from sales to charity. I hope you enjoy the music and please support this effort if you feel so lead.
